Overview

Kitulo National Park, often referred to as the “Serengeti of Flowers” or the “Garden of God,” is a unique and relatively lesser-known national park located in the southern highlands of Tanzania. Situated in the southern part of Tanzania, near the town of Mbeya. It covers an area of approximately 412 square kilometers (159 square miles) and is part of the southern highlands.

Kitulo is renowned for its diverse and spectacular array of wildflowers, making it one of the world’s most exceptional floral landscapes. The park is particularly famous for its orchids, which bloom in vibrant colors, as well as numerous other plant species, including lilies, daisies, and various endemic species. Due to its remarkable floral diversity, Kitulo National Park has been dubbed a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is considered a vital area for botanical research and conservation. It is also known for its role in preserving rare and endangered plant species.

The park offers excellent opportunities for hiking and trekking, allowing visitors to explore its breathtaking landscapes and enjoy its floral beauty up close. There are several well-marked trails, and the park’s relatively remote location ensures a peaceful and unspoiled wilderness experience. In addition to its rich botanical diversity, Kitulo National Park is home to a variety of bird species. Birdwatchers will find opportunities to spot unique and rare birds, including Den ham’s bustard, blue swallow, and the endangered mountain marsh widow.
